My summer project was focused on Irving Penn and his style of still life photography. He was my choice of three. For the summer project, I first had to research him and his artwork. I then chose his piece 'After Dinner Games' to create a SEMI (Subject, Element, Media and Intent) analysis of and later on in my project, recreate as best as i could.
The first part of of my project was fairly straight forward, as i have been using the SEMI method since year 7. Although, I do still struggle with it sometimes. It was quite challenging describing the elements and media he used at first but once I started, I believe I did a good job at the task and it became easier to complete the task.
The second half was simpler and more enjoyable than the first half, as i finally got to use my camera and recreate Irving Penn's 'After Dinner Games'. I noticed that my contact sheet images were very dark, so when i began editing my final image, I made sure that i changed the brightness and enhanced the whites and lowered the shadows. This is where i slightly stray from the original, as i found the more yellow tint to the image much easier on the eyes, rather than a rough blue hue. Keeping with the 'after dinner' theme, i found that the yellow brought 'warmer' memories to mind, making me much happier. After that it was into Procreate (2011 drawing/editing app) to edit out the foreground and background errors, like the remainder of my kitchen floor in the front.
I then evaluated my final image, and I was done.
